Power, fundamentalism, perception versus reality, and the all-important conundrum of Who Am I are all spine-tingling themes that excite me and are so masterfully deconstructed in just 16 pages of The ARK. This is a sci-fi project that develops complex characters dealing with issues that are both timeless and current, all encased in a pre-apocalyptic thriller setting that raises the stakes tenfold.
Virus, where this entire story for The ARK began in the gripping short story by A.M. Khalifa, has made-for-screen layered characters such as Herbert and Jacinda. Human yet cold, tantalizing yet haunting, aspiring for the greater good, but potentially wreaking intractable damage. The script paints an amazing canvass that lends itself superbly to visual naturalism and a stylized idea of perception that discombobulates geographically. The ARK will spark inevitable and uncomfortable questions on the constructs of power, the dark underbelly of fanaticism and the unfettered violence it can justify.
One of the most exciting things that drew me The ARK is that it doesn’t attempt to answer any of the difficult questions it raises but nudges the audience to do so within their own prisms and points of reference. And it does so within the framework of a world-class thriller that is riddled with mind-boggling twists and turns that will entertain and enthrall.
Above all, I am doing this for my Grandfather, a man who dedicated a large part of his life to science, and was a huge inspiration to me to pursue my dreams and passions, but above all, to be guided by one thing: the pursuit of the truth.
